About Laurent Philippon
International hairstylist Laurent Philippon began his career as a teenager at his father’s barbershop in France. In his late teens, Laurent went on to assist the renowned Parisian stylist, Monsieur Alexandre. He accompanied Alexandre on his travels to style famous clients like Elizabeth Taylor & Sophia Loren, and thus acquainted himself with the techniques of Haute Coiffure Francaise, mastering the classical techniques of French hairstyling. It was during this time that Laurent discovered the world of fashion in its glory, regularly working on shoots and shows at fashion houses including Chanel, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent & Balmain. His intuitive & experimental approaches to styling came from working together with Julien d’Ys , Orlando Pita & Sam McKnight in Julien d’Ys’s agency Atlantis.
Laurent continued his solo career between New York & Paris working with photographers like David LaChapelle, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Klein & Nick Knight to just name a few. His editorial work has featured in publications such as American, British & French Vogue, i-D, Dazed & Confused, Numero & Allure. Laurent has also been lead stylist in major fashion shows stretching from Rick Owens, Ralph Rucci, Kenzo, Herve Leger, Guy Laroche & Lacoste. Laurent’s work has found its way widely in the film & music industry, with his client list hairstylists would only dream of, from Gwen Stefani, Uma Thurman, Demi Moore, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Bjork, Jennifer Lopez & Dita von Teese.
In 2013, Hair: Fashion & Fantasy, a book written by Laurent Philippon was published by Thames & Hudson. This book celebrates the art of hairdressing; its symbolic and cultural significance through the ages, as well as its fascinating power to metamorphosize human beings.
